I saw this today and had to laugh. It is so true. For those of us who eat healthy, what we do is constantly referred to as, “dieting”. Friends and family will always be asking, “When are you going to be getting off that crazy diet your on?”. You mean, when am I going to go back to eating processed foods that will slowly turn into disease, inflammation, obesity, and a laundry list of other negative side-affects? ummm….never. If I had a dollar for every time I sat down for a meal and was eating something fairly basic like a salad with chicken, broccoli and tomatoes, someone always asks, “On a diet huh?”. This would fall under the same confusing category of how it became ok to place pictures of starving, skinny, unhealthy women all over magazine covers so that our kids grow up seeing these images and think that this is the way they should look. This matter is equally important in my opinion as we are now way out in front for the winner of the most obese country on the planet and have no plans to change this in the near future. It is very frustrating to me that there aren't more people out there taking action to try and change these issues but all we can do is continue to do our part and be labeled the “cult” that is on this “crazy diet”. What is funny is that when we as CrossFitters are out and about, people stop us and ask us what we do and it usually turns out, it is a fellow crossfitter who has stopped us. We are now the minority. When we stand out because we are healthy and fit, what does that tell you about what is happening in our society. Unless your on multiple medications, obese, or eating some sort of fast food or a 64oz soda, welcome to the minority known as being “fit”.
