What an awesome event on Saturday! We had over 90 competitors and 20+ Volunteers help make this event a huge success. Jess, Crowder, and Candice did an awesome job heading this event up and as always, I am thankful to have great people around me that give me the opportunity to compete at these events, knowing it will run smooth. Thanks to all those that came out and volunteered their time!
I can't say it enough, and even if I could, I would still talk about the impact CrossFit will have on our kids. I saw so many young kids watching their mom, dad, or both, participate in the competition. As our kids are in the most impressionable stage of their lives, I can't think of any better enviornment to immerse them into than a CrossFit Competition. They get to see people working incredibly hard and hearing the crowds go crazy with support and motivation. They get to see competitors that are humble, not only in victory, but defeat. How important of a lesson is that?? Do you think maybe our kids are going to be faced with some adversity at some point in their lives?(rhetorical question, the answer is not if but when) I would venture to guess that our kids will have more checks in the loss column than in the win column. That's life, and if they can learn at a young age how to handle that, it sure would make things easier.
Great seeing some familiar faces back at Vitality. Hodge came back from Wilmington and competed in the girls R'xd divison. Don't worry, she hasn't changed a bit and is still an amazing athlete! We were also so happy to have Amy and Jason Bright back at the box as well! They have been CrossFitting at CrossFit Mobile in Alabama and will be returning to Charlotte in September.
Every competition that I have ever been to, I leave with a greater appreciation for The Sport of CrossFit and this was no different. It was awesome seeing people compete in their first competition and getting ability to witness CrossFitters hit PRs! More than the results though, it was about the community. People got to witness firsthand how amazing this CrossFit Community really is. We had competitors come all the way from Virginia, Raleigh, and many from the surrounding Charlotte Area. The atmosphere was electric and everyone was so positive and encouraging, it made for a memorable day.
I am so proud of those that faced their fears and came out to compete at the “Raid”. It is amazing the confidence that will come from participating in events like this. My favorite part of the “Raid” was getting to watch the first time CrossFitters get their first taste of competition. Bill, Dave Byrne, Chris P, Milton, Madison, and Trina made their Vitality family proud with their performances. I think many of them, along with some spectators may have gotten the itch to do this again very soon.
Great Job to Zach who represented Vitality with a 1st place finish, and Haley who represented Vitality well with a 2nd place finish in the scaled division!
For those that were unable to make it, we will be having more events like this in the future. We will try and give you as much notice as possible so you can get it on the calender!
