How Alcohol Affects Our Bodies
As we approach the Holiday Season, I wanted to share a really good article that I found about the affects that alcohol has on our bodies. This IS NOT meant to be a scare tactic or me preaching that you shouldn't drink alcohol. I have absolutely NO issues with anyone that drinks alcohol, the purpose of this post is just to educate everyone on the process your body goes through when you drink alcohol and what it does to your recovery.
First, read the article HERE.
I think this does a great job of showing you that it is perfectly fine for those that drink in moderation and it shows that you still have the possibility of getting great results from exercise. However, the article talks about the drastic affects on your body that alcohol can have without a proper “recovery meal” following your workout. If you are leaving the gym and rushing home to jump in the shower and then meet up with the girls/boys downtown for drinks, you can chalk up about 5 days before your body recovers from the night of drinking you had. All you have to do is build in 30 minutes so that you can get a balanced meal and then everything will work so much better and you feel amazingly different the following morning. Your disciplined enough to get in here and crush these workouts, be disciplined enough to do what's best for your body and grab a meal before you head out on the town.
This article also states that having a drink or some wine with dinner is perfectly fine. Enjoy the holidays but be smart! Don't be that guy/girl that falls completely off the wagon over Thanksgiving and Christmas and then decides that it is a lost cause in January to come back and start from scratch. There are quite a few people over the past few winters here at Vitality that have fallen victim to the Holidays, don't be the next casualty!
