Alright guys, with the start of the new year here at Vitality, there are a couple of things that we are working to implement. One of these things that has been at the forefront of my mind for quite some time and that is; using the resources we have here at Vitality to reach and improve areas outside of just our physical fitness. It is amazing to me how many members we have that are in different specialty areas that we could all learn something from. Many of you have approached me and offered to help out in a number of ways and many of you have talked about making yourself available for all our members here at Vitality. We are working to put together a “Fitness Series” that will be focused around different areas in our lives that if we are not careful, will have much bigger implications than sneaking into your secret box of twinkies that you have hidden in your garage. A couple of these areas that we have talked about including in this “series” have been Fiscal Fitness, Mental Fitness, and last but NOT least, Marital Fitness. The thought behind this would be that we would offer a WOD on certain Saturdays at 1130a for anyone interested in learning more about the topic that we decide to discuss. We would bring people from within our own membership in to speak about these topics and offer insight on some of the most sought after questions. We would do a workout together as a group and then circle up for some discussion on whatever topic we have chosen for the day. Let me be very clear so that there is no confusion…..this WILL NOT be a sales pitch by the people we bring in as speakers for these events. The people that have already approached me about helping out with this have absolutely no intention of using this as a selling tool for their own businesses. This is simply an opportunity to educate our members on a myriad of different topics in which we have a huge group of subject matter experts right here at our disposal within Vitality.
As in CrossFit, it is very easy to become one-dimensional. You will often here me say that we don’t want to be “great” at anything, we want to be “good” at everything. This can be applied to all the other areas of our lives as well. If we are great at physical fitness, I would venture to say that there are other areas in our lives that are falling short. A perfect example is while I am training for the Games. I am trying to be a “great” CrossFitter. While I do that, the other areas in my life, will at times, take a backseat. Recognizing this and making conscious decisions to work on it is imperative to balancing my everyday life. Our focus during this series would be to identify these areas and give you ways to win in that arena as well. Knowledge is power and we have a ton of it here in Vitality, it is time we use the resources that we are so fortunate to be surrounded by.
To kick things off, we are going to run a “Couples WOD” in conjunction with Valentines Day. This will be the first event in our series and will take place on Saturday, 16 February. For those of you who know Jason Benham, many of you probably do not know that he has a Masters Degree in Counseling and is much better at that than he is at CrossFit….and he is a pretty good CrossFitter:)
The Couples WOD will not be focused for those that have issues with their spouse or significant other. It is just an opportunity to have an open forum with other Vitality couples as well as get some hints/advice from someone who has helped all kinds of couples at different points in their marriage. For those of you who know Jason, he doesn't pull any punches and tells it like it is. I can promise it will be a memorable day for you and your spouse and you will leave happy that you decided to come out and be a part of it.
