Wrapping Up The 2014 Open

As of Monday Night at 8pm, the 2014 Open will come to a close for about 208,000 participants. 48 from each region will continue on to D.C to compete at Regionals where 3 men and 3 women will be given their opportunity to come in 2nd place to Rich Froning and Sam Briggs at the Home Depot Center…jk…..but seriously, everyone is competing for 2nd place:)

We had close to 100 people take part in the Open this year and it was awesome to see them tackle the 5 workouts. Here is my advice as we all have 12 months before kicking off the 2015 Open Season:

1. Remember that the Open is a time to test your fitness and see how you have improved from the year prior. It doesn’t have to be a competitive test, just compete against yourself. It is also your chance to see how you stack up to other CrossFitters your age/gender instead of just comparing yourselves to athletes half your age:)

2. Pick a few weaknesses that you identified this year and work them religiously until they are no longer weaknesses. We all have them, and most of us have many more than one….just pick the biggest weakness and hammer at it.

3. If you didn’t sign up this year, start mentally preparing yourself to sign up next year. Step out of your comfort zone, you won’t regret it.

4. Take part in “Friday Night Lights”. Many of those who signed up didn’t participate in “Friday Night Lights”. A few had some solid reasons but many had “excuses” because I don’t think they were too excited to workout in front of a large group. I think this is an important piece, it puts us in a position that forces us to manage our emotions and it will build your self-confidence. Everyone that took place in those Friday Night workouts will tell you that they probably pushed a little harder than if they would have done it in a smaller group.

Alright, that’s all for now, great job this Season! Time to have some fun and get back to a normalized schedule at Vitality. The doors are going to be Open and it will be time to build up our Aerobic Capacity with some conditioning work. Be prepared to do some running….We will be having our next Family day in the next 6-8 weeks, stay tuned for dates.
